Bonney's not letting up at Rosslyn Park

Ealing Trailfinders may look like they have the National One crowd sown up, but Jan Bonney is not going to let them rest easy.

Rosslyn Park’s head coach saw his team get back to winning ways on Saturday as they beat derby rivals Richmond 28-20 but still slipped to fourth in the league after Esher secured a bonus point win over Cinderford to leap above them.

Park are 18 points behind leaders Ealing, who have won their last six games since drawing 16-16 with Park in December, but do have a game in hand which will put them second if they win.

It will still be a big gap to Ealing even then but Bonney wants his side to concentrate on their own results and what will be will be with Ealing.

“It is in Ealing’s hands more than us, we just have to keep winning,” he said.

“They have a couple of difficult matches but, ultimately, we have to worry about ourselves and we cannot worry about Ealing.

“We have a game in hand at the moment and if we win that we will be second but we have made it hard work for ourselves.”

Steve Parsons scored two tries and the league’s top scorer Hugo Ellis one more in Park’s victory as they bounced back from defeat at Tynedale two weeks earlier.

“Derby games are always difficult and are always going to be close ones,” he added.

“It was a bit disappointing not to pick up a four-try bonus point but we are pleased to be back on track and to get a win.

“Hugo is still the leading try scorer and is showing his quality. He always looks like scoring tries.”

Park visit sixth-placed Fylde on Saturday as Ealing go to fifth-placed Old Albanians.

“We beat Fylde up there last year,” said Bonney.

“But they are unpredictable. and if we let them throw the ball around they will be tough but it is about us performing.”
