AFC Wimbledon striker Byron Harrison is glad to be back playing football after enduring a frustrating eight-week lay-off.

The Dons leading goalscorer made his comeback by coming off the bench in the League Two 2-2 draw with Wycombe Wanderers last weekend.

Moreover, Harrison was back on the goal-scoring trail in the mid-week 4-1 win over Horley Town in the Surrey Senior Cup.

The 25-year-old picked up a back injury in the week running up to the Aldershot clash in mid-November, and he and the Dons’ medical team are still in the dark as to what happened.

“It’s good to be back, and the main thing out of the Horley game is that I did not feel any back pain,” he said.

“It was a case of getting minutes on the pitch – the more I get, the sharper I can get. Then I can push on and try get back into the side.”

He added: “The injury was a frustrating one because it came from nowhere – we’re not sure what set it off.

“I tried to play a few games with it, to try and keep my momentum going but I could not do that.

"It was disappointing, but I could not carry on playing in pain.”

Harrison’s continued return to the first team fold will be delayed after this weekend’s trip to Accrington Stanley was postponed due to the weather.
