Epsom & Ewell AC’s Ollie Garrod took the top prize after out-running all comers in Division Two of the 2XU Surrey men’s League.

In the third of four meetings, Garrod clocked 30 minutues, 24 seconds to win by more than 30 seconds.

The 20-year-old started 2013 by winning the Bushy Park parkrun, but this is his first triumph in the League this season.

Club-mate Alex Hawkins was 14th overall in 31:55, ably supported by Stuart Flack (16th, 32:07), Steve Winder (20th, 32:14) – who was the second over-40s finisher – and Clayton Payne (27th, 32:41).

Meanwhile, Gerry Smith took third in the over-60s race in 40:21.

The fine performances saw Epsom finish fifth on the day, and climb to fourth in the table, with one meeting remaining.

the first home for the club, finishing third in 31 minutes dead. 

Good performances from Peter Mills (25th, 32:40), Dave Williamson (41st, 33:22) and David Freeman (48th, 33:40) helped the team take eighth place on the day, and they now move to seventh position overall.

Peter Reid was the top over-60s finisher in 38:11, while his club-mate Geoff Newton was not far behind in second in 38:30.

Sixteen-year-old Max Caullfield waved the Epsom flag in the U17s race, finishing third in 14:40.

In the Surrey Ladies’ League, Epsom & Ewell’s Emily Alden finished fourth in the senior race recording 33:19, with Isabel Brinsden (36:28) in 23rd.

Both clubs’ youngsters will star in this weekend’s Surrey Schools’ cross country championships.
