Ful-on Tri has trumped all other London-based triathlon clubs to win the coveted London League for 2008.
With more than 200 members, Ful-on Tri had record numbers turn out at to compete in the six races that make up the league.
To cap off an amazing year for the club, victory was tasted in the 5km mob match at Richmond Park on Saturday morning over rival club Thames Turbo.
In its third year running, the London League, a series of club run races, attracted many top athletes from all clubs. The league is a chance to compete for points for your club with each person contributing, so placing and number of representing competitors’ is essential. 2008 saw Ful-on Tri win both the placing and the mob match points, highlighting that it is all about team participation and not just the stars. Ful-on Tri actively promotes a supportive yet challenging environment for its members to get the most out of themselves and excel in triathlon.
The Christmas mob match against the club down the river, Thames Turbo, is seen as an end of year fun race followed by mince pies and coffee. However on Saturday, fun was overridden by pure dedication to their respective club. Over 100 athletes turned up in the worst winter conditions park run organisers have ever seen to challenge for a top placing for their club. Although Thames Turbo took the line honors, the 60 Ful-on Tri athletes piled in through the rankings. Final scoring, similar to golf were lowest wins, saw Fulon at 1,926 against Turbos' 3,261.
Many of the top athletes were recognised for their achievements in 2008 at the awards banquet held at Thames Rowing Club that evening. Ful-on Tri attracts a range of athletes and top performers including Stuart Anderson, winner of the Long Distance Award two years running for his impressive result at the Hawaiian Ironman World Championship where he was the first non-professional Briton across the line. Mia Barry won the woman’s, also her second year running. Kerry Anley won the Woman’s Triathlete of the Year after an amazing first year in triathlon, while vice chairman won the Men’s with an outstanding overall win at the Nokia Royal Windsor Triathlon. Nick Kensington won Middle Distance Award after competing in the 70.3 World Championship in Florida while Natalie Cresswick took home the Woman’s after her spectacular win of her age group at the UK Ironman 70.3.
