New Malden's annual Fun Run (Saturday July 1) gave a huge boost to the 'running total' of a charity championed by local mum, Emma Holloway - adding almost £1,400 to the St George's Hospital Neuro Appeal.

The Malden Centre (which sponsored Saturday's event) has teamed up for a year of fundraising with mum of 3, Emma (41), who was diagnosed with a rare and incurable cancer in November 2015.

Emma underwent a pioneering, 9-hour operation at St George's Hospital, Tooting to remove most of the tumour that had grown into her spinal cord.

She has since pledged to fundraise for a new and vital piece of monitoring equipment that her surgeon, Mr Matthew Crocker (who also ran alongside Emma in Saturday's event) had to 'borrow' for Emma's operation to help avoid any damage to her nerves, that could have led to paralysis.

Director of fundraising for St George’s Hospital Charity Noel Cramer adds: “A huge thanks to the Malden Centre and Emma for their fantastic support of our Neuro Appeal.

“The highly talented medics and nurses at St George’s provide leading care for seriously ill patients and our Appeal aims to help provide more unique and important equipment and facilities that can help our amazing teams help even more patients.”
