1st July 2017 – The local community was out in force on Saturday when The Royal Star & Garter Homes in Surbiton opened its doors and welcomed one and all to its annual Summer Fete. The event was officially opened by Mike Head, Deputy Mayor of Kingston-Upon-Thames, who gave a short speech before wishing everybody a fun-filled afternoon.

The sun was shining and everyone was in great spirits as the public enjoyed the stalls and attractions. Residents and visitors mingled and passed the time together over tea and delicious homemade cake. In the afternoon, visitors were treated to a choral performance by The Star & Garter Singers (made up of residents, staff and volunteers) which went down brilliantly.

The annual event is traditionally a fun day out for all the family and this year was no exception. Attractions included performances by local musicians and dancers, a display of Second World War military vehicles, food stalls, various local crafts, a tombola, face painting, and of course the ever popular Pimms stall.

Local resident Janet remarked, “We’ve had a fantastic day. I especially enjoyed browsing the handmade crafts and watching the bands play. Superb cakes, music, things to buy and wonderful people.”

All money raised will go towards providing exceptional nursing, therapeutic and dementia care for the veterans who live in the Surbiton Home.
