Sean Hearson, a 27-year-old Kingston upon Thames resident, took on the first ever Ibiza Marathon along with his uncle, aunty and cousin  on Saturday 8th April to raise crucial funds for the Pancreatic Cancer Research Fund.

The quartet chose to raise funds for the charity after family member, Lesley Watts, and close family friend, Mandy Swift, lost their brave battles with Pancreatic Cancer in recent years.

“It started as a bit of a joke,” Sean said. “My uncle, who lives in Ibiza, sent the link around to us all about 7 months ago and I laughed at the prospect of training throughout the cold, rainy Kingston winter only to then have to run in the boiling Ibizan sun.

“Then my uncle, aunty and cousin signed up and told me the fantastic cause they were raising money for and I felt it necessary to do my part as well.

Just under 800 people took part in the Balearic Island’s first ever marathon, with temperatures reaching a hot 22 degrees.

Sean completed the event in 4 hours 57 minutes, meeting his sub-5 hour target with just a few minutes to spare.

“The heat and hills made the whole experience close to unbearable,” Sean explained. “The thought of absent family and friends and the courage and bravery they showed in their fight against pancreatic cancer, however, spurred us on. It was an honour to raise money for them and the charity’s cause”

The family have raised a fantastic 1,152 thus far and you can continue to show them your support at: www.justgiving.com/Chris-Jarvis7
