The new Captains of Surbiton Golf Club have selected Diabetes UK as their charity for the year. This was announced at the Captains' Drive in ceremony on Saturday March 25th, where the Junior Captain, Benoit Buffet-Yamanaka, the Ladies Captain, Sue Harrison and the Club Captain, Crispin Manners marked the start of their year in the role by driving off from the first tee.

Gordon Pugh the outgoing Club Captain made the presentation on behalf of the other outgoing captains - Ladies’ Marion Foubister, and Juniors’ Evan Edwards. He thanked all the members for their contribution and support for the Hospice.

Sue Harrison said: “Diabetes has a direct impact on over four million people in the UK – a number which has increased over 65% in the last decade alone. It’s estimated that over half a million people are suffering from the disease and have not yet been diagnosed. We want to make a real difference and hope that the local residents of Claygate, Chessington, Esher, Hinchley Wood and Surbiton will also support our fund raising initiatives.” The Club has set up a Just Giving page to enable people to make donations at https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/Surbiton-Golf-Club People can also donate by text by sending SURB99 £3 to 70070.

Crispin Manners said: “It’s a real privilege to be Captain of a club that makes such a difference.” Located in the leafy suburbs of South London, Surbiton GC has a history dating back over 120 years.  Golfers of all ages are welcome. There is an active calendar of competition and social events. For those looking to learn or progress their golfing ability we have an outstanding  Academy.
