MP and local Councillors make a splash with their campaign to ‘Get Tolworth Swimming’. James Berry MP and the three Conservative councillors for Alexandra ward have started a campaign to open a swimming pool in Tolworth.

The ‘Get Tolworth Swimming’ campaign will urge Kingston Council to ‘actively pursue all possible ways of providing a swimming pool and leisure facilities for Tolworth, Berrylands and the Sunray Estate.’ The ‘Get Tolworth Swimming’ Petition can be found on the Kingston Council website, which can be accessed by going to www.tolworthpool.org.

James Berry MP said: “We recognise that there is not a great deal of public money available at the moment, so we are calling on the Council to look at some inventive ways of funding a pool and leisure facilities. Perhaps using some money from local developments, or maybe in conjunction with partner companies or other institutions.”

Councillor Ian George said: “Tolworth, Berrylands and the Sunray Estate are poorly served for leisure facilities and we must push ahead with finding a solution. Local residents have expressed a wish for a swimming pool locally and we will do everything we can to try and deliver one.

Councillor Richard Hudson said: “As ward councillors we have been on a mission to ensure that Tolworth gets a better deal. We are investing in local parks and a new pool would be the icing on the cake.”

Councillor Chris Hayes said: “A new swimming pool would be a welcome activity for local children, young people and their families and help improve the health of all local residents. Let’s do all we can to make it happen.”

As well as signing the online petition (www.tolworthpool.org), local residents can show their support for the campaign by liking the ‘Get Tolworth Swimming’ Facebook page and by following the Twitter account @TolworthSwim

Alexandra ward councillors and James Berry MP will be holding street stalls promoting the campaign locally and updates will be delivered to the homes of local residents soon.
