A London mother to lead women-only African adventure for International Women’s Day

A group of 10 women are set to embark on a unique journey of self-discovery in the Namibian wilderness to mark International Women’s Day in March.

The ‘Matriarch Adventure’ is the brainchild of mother-of-two Catherine Edsell FRGS, an experienced expedition leader, naturalist and yoga teacher from London.

During the 10-day expedition, they will track the same matriarchal herds of desert elephants recently featured in the hit BBC series Planet Earth 2, collecting valuable conservation data. They will also participate in personal and group coaching sessions and meet local Namibian women to share stories and learn about their experiences.

Catherine, 46, who will be joined on the trip by qualified Clarity coach Viva Aikins, said:"There are still places available on the adventure, which will run from 3-12 March 2017. International Women’s Day takes place on 8 March."

Catherine has previously led expeditions in Asia, Central and South America and Africa. She lives in Kingston Upon Thames with her husband Mark and two daughters, Olivia and Hannah.

She added:“This adventure is open to any woman whose face lights at the thought of dawn yoga under huge flame-red skies, group coaching round a camp fire, sleeping out under a myriad of stars, tracking elusive desert elephants (the most iconic matriarchs there are), and all else that expedition life has to offer.”
