A motorcycling bobby will journey 4,000 miles across Africa in a charity expedition.
Merton PC Gordon Sinclair and 12 others, who are all funding their own trips, will leave the UK and ride through seven countries before arriving in the Gambia, where they will donate their scooters and riding gear to the Bansang Hospital.
The scooters will be used to transport medicines and blood samples and move staff to clinics in remote areas.
The fundraisers will also donate cash to the hospital, which includes an 80-bed children’s unit.
PC Sinclair, who works on the Safer Merton team at Morden’s Civic Centre, will be joined by his wife on the month-long adventure, which begins in March.
He said: “There is so much more that they need and we are trying to raise what we can to pay for some oxen, seeds and farming equipment so that a field, already donated, can be cultivated to feed the patients.
“So we would be very grateful for any donations, large or small, to help make that happen.”
