Buying up and developing Wimbledon has never been easier, provided you have 300 Monos in your back pocket.

The release of the London 2012 Monopoly edition puts Wimbledon on the middle green square – occupied in the original edition by Bond Street.

The square’s image is of a tennis player and the high positioning on the board is down to “its strong London heritage”, according to Fiona Hortopp, head of marketing at Winning Moves, which designed the Olympic version of the board game.

Wimbledon is flanked by Wembley and Lord’s, which costs a snippet more at 320 Monos –- the game’s unit of currency.

The sporty twist on the classic game also incudes new figurines.

Players can choose from Wenlock and Mandeville – London’s Olympic and Paralympic mascots – a London bus, a Tube carriage or a telephone box.

The sought-after squares of Park Lane and Mayfair have been given over to the Aquatics Centre and the Olympic stadium.

Olympic organiser Locog did not have any input in deciding which venues should go where.

Ms Hortopp said: “Essentially placement of Lord’s, Wimbledon and Wembley was down to the logical decision that they are high-profile, existing sporting venues that are being utilised for the Olympic Games.”
