Police have found a gun on a Battersea estate and are investigating whether is linked to any recent crimes in the area.

The handgun was found by a member of the public in Totteridge House, in Yelverton Road, on March 6.

The discovery was made the week after an armed robber, who lived in the same block, was jailed for his part in a series of violent robberies across south-west London.

Freddie Beasley, 19, was jailed for five-and-a-half years after pleading guilty to two counts of robbery.

Beasley was a member of a nine-strong gang who operated out of the Surrey Lane estate.

They were jailed for a total of 56 years on March 2 at Kingston Crown Court.

A police spokesman said: "On March 6, officers from Tooting Police Station attended Totteridge House, SW11 to carry out an arrest.

"Whilst in the block, its ventilation shaft was searched and a firearm was discovered and seized.

"The firearm had neither a magazine or bullet in its chamber present.

"No arrests have so far been made, however the firearm is currently being forensically examined by experts."
