A dalmatian who lost her owner got on a bus heading towards Battersea Dogs Home.

Annabelle was spot-ted wandering around outside Peckham Library and decided to take her own care in her paws and jumped on a bus heading to Battersea.

The driver of the 63 bus was shocked to find the brave dog making herself comfortable on the top deck.

Fellow passenger Steven Gosbee, of Rotherhithe helped out by leading Annabelle off the bus and took her to Battersea Dogs and Cats Home.

He said: "She looked lost but at the bus stop she just jumped on the number 63 and went upstairs.

"The driver wouldn't leave with her sat on her own, so I offered to lead her off. She looked a bit frightened so I gave her a stroke and a kiss and she seemed happy to come with me."

Staff at Battersea Dogs home found she has no tag or microchip, making it impossible for the charity to trace her owner.

They are now starting to look for a new home for her as nobody has come forward as her owner.

Claire Porteous explained: "At Battersesa 66 per cent of our dogs arrive as strays, but it is very rare for stray Dalmatians to arrive at our gates.

"Her story highlights the importance of putting a collar and tag on your dog and getting it microchipped, as they are the only ways to ensure you are reunited if your pet goes missing."
