Funeral for Salvation Army leader to be held in Southfields

A funeral service will be held in Southfields on Monday for a long-serving Salvation Army leader who died suddenly last month.

Jo Norton, 48, who worked for the Salvation Army in Wandsworth for 16 years, died peacefully at St George’s Hospital on Saturday June 27 after suffering a blood clot to the brain.

As well as working for the Salvation Army in Wandsworth, Jo also worked for the organisation in North London and Liverpool for most of the 1980s.

Jo was also working closely with the Wandsworth Street Pastors, whose aim is to reach out to young people and others who feel marginalised by society.

Jo is survived by her husband Allan, a fellow Commanding Officer and their three children Ruth, Ben and Sam and her funeral will be held at Holy Trinity Church, Beaumont Rd at 12.30pm on Monday July 13.

Edward Lister, the leader of Wandsworth Council who also worked closely with Jo, said: “Jo was an incredible woman. She worked so hard on behalf of the whole community and was the driving force behind the success of the street pastors scheme in Wandsworth.

“She was a very special person indeed and I feel honoured to have known her and worked with her. We will all miss her terribly.”
