Disability scooter crushed by cement mixer

An elderly man has been taken to hospital after a disabled buggy was crushed by a cement mixer in Earlsfield this afternoon.

The incident is believed to have happened at a building site in Magdalen Road, next to Earlsfield Library, at about 2.45pm.

A witness said the buggy-type vehicle was completely flattened by the mixer.

The man, who did not want to named, added: "I was picking up my son from school when I saw the disability scooter had been completely flattened by the lorry.

"I don't know how seriously injured the peson was but the ambulance stayed for about 20 minutes before leaving without any lights or sirens on."

A London Ambulance Service spokesman said an elderly man had been taken by ambulance to St George's Hospital in Tooting.

A Met spokesman said police were called to the scene at 2.43pm to reports that a lorry had collided with a mobility scooter.

He said there was no indictaion to suggest the collision had caused any fatal or serious injuries to those involved.
