4:02pm Thursday 10th January 2008 in Wandsworth By Jane Bruccoleri
A Wandsworth teen has been awarded the dubious honour of receiving the borough's 100th Asbo.
Ricky Jenkins, from Buckhold Road, stole a car and then crashed it while drunk, even though he was already on a driving ban.
He was jailed at Kingston Crown Court for 39 weeks for aggravated car theft, drink driving and driving while disqualified and without insurance.
But, when the judge heard additional evidence that the 19-year-old had been involved in a wave of anti-social behaviour in the area around his home, she also imposed a two year Asbo.
The order prohibits Jenkins from behaving in a manner causing or likely to cause harassment, alarm or distress and from threatening any person with violence or being verbally abusive.
He is also banned from touching any vehicle, except for public transport, without permission. If he fails to comply, he could face up to five years in jail or a fine.
The court heard how Jenkins stole a black Ford Escort while drunk and then crashed it on the A3 in the early hours of the morning.
When police officers signalled him to pull over, he sped off and a short time later crashed into a metal barrier. The car was deemed a write off.
Councillor James Cousins, executive member for regeneration and community safety, said: "This is a landmark case because it is the 100th time that the courts have imposed an anti-social behaviour order in Wandsworth."
Jenkins now joins a long list of others who have been handed an Asbo, ranging from graffiti vandals and bike thieves to aggressive beggars, thugs, arsonists and joyriders.
Council tenants or leaseholders experiencing antisocial behaviour in the borough should call 020 8871 6829 while people living in privately-owned accommodation are urged to contact 020 8871 8894.
