CAFOD is calling on wise and not-so-wise men, women and children to take part in a winter fun run dressed up as Christmas characters.

The Catholic aid agency’s second annual Nativity Run, which was attended by more than 200 runners last year, takes place on Clapham Common on Saturday, on December 15.

Participants are encouraged to dress up as a character from the Christmas story, such as a shepherd, an angel or a wise man, while running five kilometres to reach a target of £6,000 for those less fortunate in the world.

Organiser Hannah Patterson said: "If everyone taking part in the Nativity Run raises £30 sponsorship, we could keep a feeding centre open in West Africa for five months; screening, treating and providing follow-up care for nearly 6,000 mothers and children.

The Nativity Run takes place on Saturday, December 15, on Clapham Common, starting at 10.30am at the bandstand although runners are requested to arrive by 10am.

Participation costs £10 for adults, £5 for teens (12-17) and is free for children under 12.

CAFOD is asking all participants, whether running or walking the five kilometres, to register in advance via www.cafod.org.uk/nativityrun and to raise a minimum of £30 in sponsorship.
