Councillor Hugh Ashton, a former mayor of Elmbridge, died suddenly at a public meeting on Monday.

Coun Ashton, 73, a well respected Claygate councillor, was the Liberal Democrat group leader in Elmbridge Council and was elected Mayor of Elmbridge in 1996. Coun Ashton was at a Citizens Advice Bureau trustees meeting on Monday evening when it is believed he suffered a major heart-attack.
