The brains behind the Tamil Tigers of Sri Lanka died at his New Malden home last week.

Anton Balasingham, 68, who lived in Bodley Road, New Malden, was the group's political adviser and chief negotiator in many meetings with western leaders.

In recent years he suffered from bile duct cancer, chronic diabetes, motor neurone disease and acute kidney failure.

The local Tamil population is mourning the loss of one of its main campaigners for the freedom of the Tamil nation.
