Twelve students picketed Edward Davey's weekend advice session in a protest against the coalition Government's plans to increase tuition fees.

The university students brandished photos taken in November last year of the Kingston and Surbiton MP posing with a signed pledge to vote against increased fees.

The picket took place outside Mr Davey's morning session at the Hook Centre on Saturday, December 4.

The National Union of Students pledge said he would “vote against any increase in fees in the next parliament and pressure the Government to introduce a fairer alternative.”

MPs will vote on whether to increase tuition fees to up to £9,000 on Thursday, December 9.

Mr Davey is a junior minister at the Department of Business, Innovation and Skills, which is introducing the proposals.

Last Friday, his Liberal Democrat Business Secretary boss Vince Cable MP told the Comet's sister paper the Richmond and Twickenham Times he would vote for the increase.

Last week Mr Davey said he did not yet know how he would vote, and he has not responded to messages since Mr Cable's statement.
