Shameless plug for New Malden pound store

A “drug-dealing criminal wife” was chosen as the face of New Malden’s latest discount store, which officially opened on Saturday.

Tina Malone, an ex-Celebrity Big Brother housemate and star of Channel 4 TV show Shameless, signed autographs and handed out £1 vouchers to residents to promote the new store in New Malden High Street.

According to Channel 4’s website, Ms Malone’s character Mimi Maguire is “every inch as feared as her husband, with several Chatsworth residents having felt her wrath”.

“Behind every good man is a good woman, and every drug-dealing criminal is his drug-dealing criminal wife,” it read.

The family fun day included £1 vouchers for shoppers and the chance to compete in a checkout challenge where £100 worth of vouchers were given away throughout the day.

Poundland’s trading director, David Coxon, said: “We are delighted to bring our unique proposition to New Malden.

“The £1 price hasn’t changed since we opened our first store 20 years ago. Our current customers love us and we are sure the New Malden shoppers will too.”
