Star's absolutely fabulous nursing home visit

4:19pm Wednesday 27th August 2008

Actress Helen Lederer, best known for her roles in TV sitcoms French and Saunders and Absolutely Fabulous, delighted residents of Nightingale care home when she dropped in to speak about her life in TV and radio.

The comedian and presenter regaled residents with tales from her acting career which has seen her playing the ditzy journalist in Ab Fab opposite Jennifer Saunders and Joanna Lumley.

Helen revealed herself as a success in the kitchen, baking a cheese cake for the residents and promising to return to Nightingale, the Jewish care home on Nightingale Lane, to host a cheese cake baking challenge.

Helen spent much of the afternoon last Wednesday chatting to residents and resident Rosaleigh Naydorf presented her with a plate that she had made in the home’s arts and crafts centre.

Chief Executive of Nightingale Leon Smith said: “We were delighted that Helen could come and join us at Nightingale.

“Her comical insight into her vibrant career charmed all the residents, who thoroughly enjoyed her visit.

“Thank you to Helen for coming down and we very much look forward to welcoming her back to witness her cheese cake baking skills.”

Lederer has not been the only famous face to grace Nightingale this summer. In June satirist Ian Hislop was a guest at the care home, joking that he was considering converting to Judaism to secure a place at Nightingale in his old age.
