The 100th Surbiton Farmers’ Market was held last weekend and £1,276 was raised for Momentum Children’s Charity to mark the occasion.

Momentum supports children with cancer or life-limiting conditions, and their families, in south west London and Surrey.

The funds will go towards the charity’s hospital improvement programme including a refurb of the sunshine and dolphin children’s wards in Kingston.

Momentum patron and comedy actress Felicity Montagu cut a cake to mark the occasion on Saturday, April 21, and helped draw the prizes in the market’s anniversary raffle.

Since the market first appeared on Maple Road in 2009 it has helped raise more than £60,000 for local charities, and won eight local and national awards including the prestigious FARMA Farmers’ Market of the Year.

Along with Gordon Bennett owner Richard Sealtiel – one of the founders of the market – Felicity unveiled a plaque on Maple Road to mark the 100th market.

Richard said: “The success of the monthly market has come about as a result of the initiative being truly run by the community, for the community.

“Residents get to enjoy top-class produce right on their doorstop every month.

“But the benefits run so much deeper than that, from providing a point of cohesion in our community, to bringing the businesses closer together on Maple Road, and inspiring other initiatives locally and further afield.

“I feel extremely proud that the Farmers’ Market has sustained itself and rolled out a welcome 100 times, come rain, snow or shine.”
