Two legends teams will battle it out in a football match to raise money for the Motor Neurone Disease Association.

Chelsea FC legends will face the Del Harris Middlesex Legends team on Sunday, May 6, at Spelthorne Sports Club.

The Chelsea team will include one lucky Surrey Comet reader (competition in print edition out April 27), as well as Dave Beasant, Garry Stanley, Keith Dublin, Dave Lee, Gareth Hall, Peter Rhoades-Brown, Frank Sinclair, Kerry Dixon, John Bumstead, Colin Pates, Ken Monkou, Kenny Swain, Clive Wilson, Scott Minto, David Speedie and Pat Nevin.

Chelsea’s third all-time leading goal-scorer Kerry Dixon said: “I know our boys enjoy a good game like this. Without being disrespectful to anyone, we’re not going to be racing around the pitch.

“This is the first charity game of the season – there will be a few people shaking off the cobwebs. But it’s always good fun. Just as long as there are no spring chickens flying about the pitch at 40 miles per hour.”

Fans will be able to watch the game, as well as the Chelsea versus Liverpool match on a big screen, and meet the players afterwards.

Mr Dixon said: “I’ve never had a problem with meeting the fans. There’s the odd modern player – naming no names – who would rather not, and just wants to keep their headphones on, but we’re always happy to talk.”

Money raised will go to the Motor Neurone Disease Association, a charity supporting people affected by the degenerative disease.

Mr Dixon said: “All charities are important, and there are a lot of good causes. This one is close to a lot of the people involved, and I know certain people who are affected by motor neurone disease.

“I’m happy the money will be going to something good.”
