Kingston University is running a trial of gender-neutral toilets after taking in suggestions from staff and students.

Two male and female single-occupancy cubicle toilets at the Penrhyn Road campus Learning Resources Centre were converted into gender-neutral facilities as part of the initiative and both are available for anyone to use.

It was instigated by the university's network of equality, diversity and inclusion champions collaborating with the Union of Kingston Students, the LGBTQ+ Society and the estates team.

A spokesperson said: "This trial forms part of the university's ongoing commitment to providing an inclusive environment for all its students, staff and visitors.

"Feedback on the pilot - from both staff and students - is currently being collated and will influence whether the trial is later extended to other university campuses."

The initiative has been in effect since May.
