One user, Juls3456, wrote: “This was a real treat, food, wine, service were all fantastic. Yes it is a tad more expensive than the run of the mill restaurants but then this is not in the same class, we will return.”

Aside from being top of this list, they also won Surrey Chef of the Year 2016, reached number three in OpenTable’s Top 100 Best Restaurants UK 2016 and were listed on the AA Notable Wine List Award 2016.

2) Cappadocia, Fife Road, Kingston

This restaurant serves ‘authentic Turkish cuisine’, and boasts a varied menu, including many vegetarian options, kebabs from a charcoal grill and pide – Turkish style pizza.

One user, TheFamilyBardell, wrote: “Very often a kebab is a kebab, but when the care and skill is applied to it as is done by these guys, it becomes a quality dining experience.”

Every Thursday night they present traditional Turkish belly dancing.

For those who live further away from Kingston there is also a Cappadocia in Walton, which pips the Kingston branch slightly in that it is the number one restaurant in its area.

Roz Ana in Hindi means ‘come every day’, which they invite you to do to ‘experience the finest Indian cuisine from across the subcontinent, in a comfortable, chic, buzzy setting’.

One user, Phil M, wrote: “We have been here several times and every time it's amazing. Fabulous food that tingles the taste buds and cocktails to match.”

They have a regional specials board, which changes monthly and reflects the huge diversity of Indian food – this month features Rajasthani cuisine.

4) Phoreal, Ancient Market Place, Kingston

Not exactly a restaurant, Phoreal, formerly What Da Pho, is a stall in the Market Place selling Vietnamese street food.

Their compact menu includes grilled pork shoulder, spring rolls, pho and banh mi.

One user, mattdago, wrote: “The food at Phoreal is always of the same high quality and the meals are all great tasting, healthy and filling whilst maintaining good value for money. The grilled pork has an amazing flavour to it and I would recommend it to anyone.”

Phoreal is the only place in this list to not have a single ‘terrible’ review.

The first pub on the list, the Antelope’s focus is naturally on good beer, simple food and delicious Sunday roasts.

Their menu consists of a series of small dishes, bigger pub classics, and a number of burgers, including a vegan option.

One user, Podge29, wrote: “The best pub in Surbiton and surrounding areas - staff are great. Great selection of ales and ciders which change constantly - if craft beer is your thing then this is heaven!”

To wash down the food, the Antelope serves a selection of ten real ales, five real ciders and eight keg beers, and they run the Big Smoke Brew Co. from the shed at the back of the pub, producing unrefined and unfiltered vegan beers.

This traditional Italian restaurant serves a classic menu with a focus on pasta and pizza.

This wine bar, restaurant and pizzeria serves a selection of classic Italian and Sicilian food, in a ‘true rustic, Italian atmosphere’.

Their large garden has a children’s area with a wendy house, beanbags and a climbing area, providing a family-friendly setting, but there is also plenty of space for adults.

One user, YellowFlop, wrote: “Whether you're a serial visitor or you've only visited the once, I'm sure you'll agree that The Cardinal is a great place to eat. With a mighty pizza oven now installed, the pub produces some wonderful dishes.”

Named after the Thai flower Busaba, this restaurant offers casual Thai dining with minimal fuss.

They aim to follow sookjai, a concept based on traditional Buddhist values that seeks to avoid distractions and everyday chaos.

One user wrote: “Can't beat the atmosphere and the quality of the food served. I was truly amazed with the freshness, taste of food and the super fast service. I must say if you want to spend a great evening with someone very special to you, you will not find a better, tastier and more friendly place in Kingston.”

The food was great - imaginative but not wacky, with all dishes that we ate and saw being exquisitely prepared; the service was knowledgeable and attentive without being overbearing; the wine list good and the cocktails wow!”
