A 16-year-old boy has been charged with arson over a year after a huge fire devasted a mosque in Morden. 

The fire ripped through the administration buildings of the Baitul Futuh Mosque on September 26, 2015, with plumes of smoke visible for miles around.

However, 70 fire fighters and 10 fire engines managed to prevent the blaze from spreading into the library and or the main mosque itself. 

The 16-year-old boy from Walton-on-Thames was just 14-years-old when he was arrested the day after the fire. 

He was now been charged with arson to the value of £6,078,311.73 and arson with intent to endanger life. 

He was charged yesterday, Tuesday, December 20, and will appear at Wimbledon Youth Court on Wednesday, January 18. 

A 16-year-old boy arrested on the same day was released with no further action in September 2015.
