Today the iconic Bubbleworks’ ride at Chessington World of Adventures will take its last spin, closing for good after 26 years.

The park announced in July that the beloved ride would close today after completing more than 15 million circuits.

Luke Excell tweeted a picture showing a 90 minute wait for the ride on its last day

The impending closure of the foamy and water-soaking ride provoked an outpouring of sorrow from guests who were devastated to learn the Bubbleworks factory, run by the quirky Professor Burp, would close its doors forever.

The news of its closure prompted one superfan from Kingston to change his name by deedpoll to Professor Burp in its memory.

It is not yet known what will replace Bubbleworks, but a spokeswoman from Chessington World of Adventures said that die-hard fans will be able to take a piece of the ride home with them as they auction off some of the animated scenes at the beginning of this month.

The Surrey Comet team will live tweet the ride’s last circuit tonight as the theme park bids farewell to the ride.
