On Sunday, July 31, thousands of cyclists will descend once more on Surrey and south west London for the Prudential RideLondon series.

Roads along the route will be closed for the majority of the day so people are advised to plan their travel in advance.

This year, three cycling routes will run through south west London and Surrey, the amateur Surrey 100, the world-class Surrey Classic, and a new Surrey 46 created for newer and younger riders.

The RideLondon 100

The RideLondon 100 starts in the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park at 6am on July 31 and follows a route of closed roads through the capital and into Surrey.

Riders will head south, passing the Tower of London before heading west to Chiswick. The route then crosses the Thames to East Sheen, goes through Richmond Park, over Kingston Bridge and to Bushy Park.

The route passes back over Hampton Court Bridge, through Molesey, Walton on Thames and then to Weybridge and Byfleet.

Riders will travel through the Surrey countryside, looping back around at Forest Green before heading north back toward London.

They will pass through Dorking, Box Hill village, Leatherhead, Oxshott and Esher before going east toward Raynes Park and Wimbledon Village.

The route then takes cyclists to Putney, where they will cross the River Thames for the final time, before going to The Mall.

RideLondon 46

New this year, the RideLondon 46 is a sportive, rather than a race, and will allow cyclists to complete part of the RideLondon 100 route.

Cyclists will start at the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park but leave in waves from 9am after the last wave of the RideLondon 100 route.

The route travels from the park west to the Tower of London and then to Chiswick, where cyclists will cross the bridge into East Sheen. Riders will then follow their RideLondon 100 counterparts into Richmond Park, Kingston and Bushy Park, crossing Hampton Court Bridge into Molesey.

The route changes here, with the riders cycling around Thames Ditton and going back into Raynes Park and Wimbledon Village.

The route finishes in the same way, as riders will cross the bridge at Putney and finish at the Mall.

Surrey Comet:

RideLondon Classic

The RideLondon classic series will pit 150 of the world's best cyclists against each other on a 200km route through London and Surrey.

The route starts and finishes at the Mall with riders following the same route from that point through Chiswick, East Sheen, Richmond Park, over Kingston Bridge and Bushy Park to Walton-on-Thames and Weybridge.

The Surrey section takes the riders as far south as Abinger Hammer, where the circuits through Dorking, that make up 50 miles of the race, take place.

They will then head back to London, sprinting through Leatherhead, Oxshott and Esher and passing the now familiar scenery in Kingston, which the riders will have journeyed through on the way to Surrey. They will then take the same route to Raynes Parks, Wimbledon Village and Putney, finishing in central London.
