Commuters are being shepherded onto replacement buses this morning as South West Trains carries out “vital repair work”.

The rail provider closed the line between Shepperton and Teddington on Saturday for engineering works to be carried out at the tunnel at Fulwell for the next two weeks.

Buses are replacing trains between Shepperton and Teddington and between Shepperton and Strawberry Hill during peak hours.

Teddington station is also expected to be busier than normal.

A statement on South West Trains’ website says: “Fulwell Tunnel has flooded frequently in recent years and we know how disruptive this has been to the journeys of thousands of our customers.

“We aim to reduce this disruption by carrying out vital repair work on the line between Fulwell and Shepperton, particularly the tunnel at Fulwell. Your journey will take longer.”

The rail provider expects the line to reopen on Sunday, July 31.
