Sadiq Khan has offered London's support to Nice after more than 80 people were killed last night during Bastille Day celebrations. 

The attack has been described as a terror attack by French President Francois Hollande, after a man drove a lorry through a crowd of of people who were celebrating the national day. The driver was killed by police.

At 8am this morning, the death count had risen to 84, with several children believed to be among the dead. 

Mayor of London Sadiq Khan has said he is "devastated"  by the attack, and spoken of solidarity with Nice. 

A spokeswoman for Downing Street said this morning that new Prime Minister Theresa May was being updated on events as they happened, and said: "Our thoughts are with all those affected by this terrible incident on what was a day of national celebration."

New foreign secretary Boris Johnson has also expressed his grief at the attack. 

MP's around south London have taken to social media to express their horror at the attack.

Local police forces have also been speaking out in support of the French police.
