The family of Zane Gbangbola, who died after flooding in his home in Chertsey in 2014, will have legal representation at his inquest after a mysterious donation of £25,000.
Seven-year-old Zane, a pupil at St George’s Junior School in Weybridge, died when floodwaters entered his Chertsey home in February 2014.
His family has maintained that he died from hydrogen cyanide poisoning, as gas readings from the night show there were high levels of the harmful substance in the home.
From Saturday: Leader of the Green Party asks David Cameron to delay Zane Gbangbola inquest
Spelthorne Council and the Environment Agency have both denied this was the cause, claiming his death was by carbon monoxide.
The inquest into his death, due to last six weeks, is scheduled to begin today, June 13.
Last week, leader of the Green Party Natalie Bennett called for a delay to give the family more time to raise funds for legal fees, as they were refused legal aid.
A statement on the family's Go Fund Me page, left on Sunday evening, said: "We are delighted to say that we have secured our legal team thanks to the generosity of so many and a mystery £25,000 donation given to our vicar. We have 6 weeks grace to find the balance.
"The donations are life changing because we can now fight for the TruthAboutZane and give Zane's precious life the honest and dignified closure he deserves."
