A woman was rescued after reportedly jumping into the Thames in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Up to three fire engines, six ambulances, a police van and a lifeboat crew were on standby to rescue the woman who jumped into the river at about 1.45am on Sunday, June 5.

A Metropolitan Police spokesman confirmed that police had been called at about 1.45am to reports of a woman jumping into the river near Kingston Bridge.

Members of the RNLI rescued the woman from the water after 2am.

A witness told this website: “There were three fire engines, five or six ambulances plus a police car.

“Police, or possibly ambulance crews, were shouting very clearly to a person who was in the water and either drifted, or swam in the river from Kingston Bridge all the way past the railroad bridge.

“They were shouting ‘grab the line,’ or ‘come over to me’.”

“I also went down to Thames Side at about 2.30am and saw men from the London Fire Brigade donning dry suits as if they were preparing to go into the water.”

After the woman was rescued she was taken to hospital as a precaution and was described as being safe and well.
