Burglaries in London are at their lowest level since 1973/74, according to figures released by the Metropolitan Police this week.

There has been a downward trend in the number of burglaries and in the 12 months until March 2016, there were 4,000 fewer offences than the year before. 

The Met has also reported an 18.6 per cent reduction in neighbourhood crime since 2011/12. 

Gun crime has gone up by 0.2 per cent, three extra offences, and there were six more murders in the capital this year on last.

Domestic abuse rose by 10.6 per cent, while racist and religious hate crime has increased by 17.9 per cent.

Assistant Commissioner Helen King, Territorial Policing said: "The Met is continuing to work with partners, businesses and the public to reduce the number of offences taking place. Our officers have spent the last year conducting both pro active operations and preventative work in order to reduce crime, better support victims and build more engagement with communities. 

"We will continue to keep up our intensified focus on areas such as violence where we have seen a rise in recorded offences. We must not lose sight of the reductions we have achieved over the last five years." 

Wandsworth

In Wandsworth, there was a total of 23,256 crimes in the 12 months up to March 2016, up from 22,583 in the 12 months before.

There were 7,071 offences of crime against a person, 172 rapes and 426 other sexual offences. 

There were 35 gun crime offences, 416 instances of racist and religious hate crime and 58 homophobic crimes.

There were five anti-semitic crimes and 23 incidents of Islamophobic crime. 

There were two homicides, meaning murder or manslaughter. 

There were 519 robberies in total and 2,376 burglaries. 

Merton

In Merton, there were 12,905 crimes in total in the 12 months up to March 2016, up from 12,164 in the 12 months before. 

There were 4,102 cases of violence against a person, 115 rapes and 193 sexual offences. 

There were 22 gun crime offences, 272 cases of racist and religious hate crime and 24 homophobic crimes. 

There was one anti-Semitic crime, and 30 Islamophobic offences. 

There were two homicides. 

There was a total of 253 robberies and 1,405 burglaries. 

Sutton

In Sutton, there was a total of 10,925 crimes, down from 10,974 in the 12 months to March 2015. 

There were no homicides.

There were 3,813 cases of violence against a person, 93 rapes, and 180 other sexual offences.

There were 31 gun crimes, 214 instances of racist and religious hate crime and 1 anti-Semitic crime. 

There were 16 homophobic offences and nine cases of Islamophobia. 

There was a total of 155 robberies and 1,248 burglaries. 

Croydon

In Croydon, there were 28,900 crimes in the 12 months up to March 2016, up slightly from 28,804 in the 12 months before. 

There were three homicides. 

There were 10,087 instances of violence against a person, 297 rapes and 449 other sexual offences. 

There were 483 racist and religious hate crimes, 48 homophobic crimes and 2 anti-Semitic crimes.

There were 49 Islamophobic crimes. 

There were 74 gun crime cases. 

There was a total of 718 robberies and 2,627 burglaries.

Kingston

In Kingston, there were 10,114 crimes in the 12 months up to March 2016, up from 9,774 in the year before. 

There was one homicide.

There were 3,110 incidents of violence against the person, 70 rapes and 169 sexual offences. 

There were 209 racist and religious hate crimes, 21 homophobic crimes, and two anti-Semitic crimes.

There were 15 Islamophobic crimes. 

There were 14 gun crime offences. 

There was a total of 122 robberies and 884 burglaries. 

Richmond

In Richmond, there were 10,722 crimes in total in the 12 months up to March 2016, down slightly from 10,788 in the 12 month before. 

There were no homicides.

There were 2,998 incidents of violence against a person, 65 rapes and 182 other sexual offences. 

There were 16 gun crimes, 201 racist and religious hate crimes and four anti-Semitic crimes.

There were 21 homophobic crimes and eight Islamophobic crimes. 

There was a total of 139 robberies and 1,325 burglaries.
