An Epsom man has been arrested after a 90 mile-per-hour, 24-mile police chase on the M25 this morning.

During the pursuit the driver crashed into two police cars and reached top speeds of nearly 90 miles per hour.

Surrey Police had to close two lanes of the A3 southbound and one lane of the northbound carriageway of the M25 to protect other drivers.

The chase was bought to an abrupt halt after the police carried out what they called a “successful manoeuvre” between the B2039 Ockham Road North and A247 (Burntcommon) junctions of the A3.

The black Peugeot crashed into a car on the A25 in Oxted.

The driver had joined the M25 at junction 6 (Godstone), damaging a tyre in the process.

The Peugeot was chased by two police cars between lanes at speeds of nearly 90 miles per hour.

The suspect’s car was eventually stopped on the A3 southbound junction 10 at 10.15am.

A man was taken to East Surrey Hospital as a precaution.

One police officer suffered a minor injury.

A 44-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving, criminal damage, failing to stop for police, threats to kill and assault.
