Annoyed residents continued to voice their frustrations over noise from planes last night, as it was reported government ministers have been warned to keep quiet about Heathrow expansion plans.

Cabinet secretary Sir Jeremy Haywood wrote to ministers to caution them about speaking publicly about the issue, according to the BBC.

Heywood is reported to have told MPs they could repeat statements made before the Davies Commission’s report was made in July but should refrain from any further comment.

Home secretary Theresa May, speaking on yesterday’s Radio 4 Today programme, said the story had become “a mountain out of a molehill” and it was correct ministers should not be interfering with decisions around Heathrow by speaking publicly about the issue.

Meanwhile, residents across south west London continued to tweet about disruption from planes overhead.

Bryony Pemberton, from Teddington, tweeted: “@HeathrowAirport @HeathrowNoise what's going on? Persistent increase in noise over Teddington esp at night??? #cantsleep.”

Sunita Davies, from Twickenham, tweeted: "low flying aircraft at 00.49 over Twickenham? Let us get some rest on a school night!"

The government has said it will deliver a formal response to the Davies Commission recommendation, which recommended Heathrow for expansion over Gatwick in July, by Christmas.
