A boy accused of murder has described in court the moment Hampton teenager Jamil Palmer was stabbed to death.

The 15-year-old [defendant A], who cannot be named for legal reasons, told the Old Bailey jury Mr Palmer, 18, handed a “black kitchen knife” to an accomplice shortly before his death.

Defendant A claimed he went to the fight in Crane Park on May 6 because a fellow defendant, 17, had arranged a “one-on-one” showdown with Mr Palmer, following an earlier fight on the same day.

He said he did not encourage or join in with the fight, which was allegedly watched by several people.

He said: “Jamil says ‘let’s get cracking’ and they approached each other and started fighting.

“They exchanged punches and then they backed away from each other.

“[Defendant C] said ‘Jamil, you’re bleeding’ - he said it was nothing and wanted to continue.”

The defendant said the fight was then stopped by two of Mr Palmer’s friends.

Defendant A told the court the five accused caught a bus and a train back to defendant C’s accommodation, where defendant D admitted “poking” Mr Palmer.

He said: “I was shocked - [defendant B] said ‘get out, get out’.”

Five people are on trial for Mr Palmer’s murder, a 15-year-old (def A), two 16-year-olds (def B and C) and a 17-year-old (def D),  none of whom can be named for legal reasons, and 18-year-old Kishon Zelaya, from Reading. They all deny murder and conspiracy to cause grievous bodily harm.

The trial continues.
