Wedding: Blackburn and Joseph

A medical secretary from Wandsworth was married on Saturday, February 17, at St Gregory's Catholic Church, Earlsfield, writes Carlene Thomas-Bailey.

Barbara Marilyn Blackburn married Parris Loriston Anthony Joseph in front of more than 50 friends and family.

The vicar overseeing the ceremony was Father John Henry.

He said: "Barbara is a reader at the church and a member of the music group.

"She's been attending the church for more than 20 years.

"It was a real pleasure to marry her and her husband, because I know her so well. It truly was a lovely day."

The couple who met in 1991, were married in the church and then had the reception at the community centre on the Henry Prince Estate, in Earlsfield.

The bride was driven to the church in a classic car and given away by family friend Keith Wakeley.

The bride also had two bridesmaids, her daughter, Danielle Blackburn, and close friend Marilyn Gilbert-Campbell.

The bridesmaids were dressed in purple frocks for the occasion. The best man on the day was Leyland Wellcome.

The newly wed Mrs Joseph said: "It was a lovely day, one of the happiest days of my life.

"I was worried that it might rain, because it had poured down the week before, but I prayed for sun and in the end the weather was lovely on the day."

Guests enjoyed a plentiful spread at the reception.

The three-tier wedding fruit cake was a particular hit.

Speeches were made throughout the afternoon and there was dancing too.

However, at the end of the day, there was no traditionally throwing of the bouquet.

Mrs Joseph said: "The bouquet was in a porcelain vase, so I was careful not to throw it.

"But I had heard it was bad luck to keep hold of them, so someone in the church, took them for me."
