Golden Wedding: Richard and Angela Peters

They met at a 21st birthday party and now more than 50 years later, a Teddington couple have celebrated their golden wedding anniversary.

Richard and Angela Peters got together at a party which was thrown by his cousin.

Their first date was a trip to the theatre in London and it is a hobby which has endured throughout their marriage.

Angela is a volunteer at both the Hampton Hill Playhouse and the Orange Tree theatre.

The couple courted for five years before they got engaged and married in Cambridge.

They moved to Strawberry Hill in 1956. Then, 13 years ago, they moved to their current home in Luther Road.

Mr Peters, 80, was a boatbuilder by trade, then became a boat house superintendent for rowing and sailing clubs, ending up as a superintendent for BP at Trowlock Island.

He was also a Royal Waterman and was on duty for Royal visits in Richmond from both Prince Charles and the Queen.

Mrs Peters, 77, worked as a school matron before turning her hand to catering, and she ensured all were well-fed at the BBC, both at Bush House and the Lime Grove studios which are no more.

They have a daughter and a son, plus two grandsons, aged 11 and nine.

Travel has always been another big passion for the couple and they also celebrated their occasion with a holiday in Cyprus.

Their big day was marked with a family meal at the Waterside Inn in Bray.
