A Carshalton couple celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary at the weekend, surrounded by friends and family in Wallington.
Fred and Marie Power's nearest and dearest all turned up to the Duke's Head Pub, in Manor Road, on May 27, to raise a glass to the couple's many years of marriage.
They were wed in St Barnabas Church on April 24, 1937, after they met on a bookkeeping course in Mitcham.
They went on to have four daughters, Barbara, Eileen, Sylvia and Julie. In the 1950s the family moved to Carshalton Beeches, where Mrs Power remained a housewife and Mr Power was a printer for The Times in Fleet Street.
Their grandson Sean O'Brien said: "That generation tend to stay together but it is still amazing. My brother and I grew up in their house as much as we did in ours. They have always really loved each other and are an amazing couple. They had a lovely time at the party, and the room full of people there to see them is testament to what great parents, grandparents and friends they are."
