A Wallington couple will celebrate their half century together by holding a fundraising party with their daughter, and donating all the money to charity.
Brian Lambert, 73, and his wife Doris, 68, are combining their Golden Wedding anniversary party at the Holiday Inn, Sutton, with the 40th birthday celebrations of their daughter, Sarah Lambert.
With more than 60 guests expected, the couple took the advice of Sarah's friend, Sally Riches, and decided to forego presents and suggest guests donate to the Royal Marsden Bowel Cancer Research Centre.
Doris said they chose the charity because of the good care they received when Brian was diagnosed with bowel cancer himself.
She said: "It's something that means a lot to us and, when Sally suggested it, it sounded like a good idea.
"We are expecting quite a few people, and our friends are even coming over from Spain."
