A man who claimed to work for Sutton Council stole hundreds of pounds from a pensioner.
The 83-year-old woman had £240 stolen on Saturday, February 4, between 3.30pm and 3.45pm after she allowed the man to enter her home.
He explained that he wanted to come into her rear garden so he could show her nearby properties where the drains had become blocked by kitchen paper.
However, once in her garden, he talked about putting up 6ft high fences and pruning big trees.
The man, who had not shown any ID, said he would return soon.
However, two days later the lady was preparing to go shopping with her daughter and noticed that £240 was missing along with a glass dish shaped like a fish.
It is believed the caller had an accomplice who stole the money while the woman was distracted in the garden.
The man is described as white, aged 30-35, slim build and 5ft 8in tall with short dark hair and had a “weather beaten” face.
He was wearing a blue denim jacket.
PC Duncan Harris of Sutton Crime Prevention Unit, said people must not allow in any unknown or unexpected callers.
If you are suspicious, householders should call police immediately on 999.
If you have any information that could help police with their enquiries please contact Sutton Police station on 101.
