Hundreds gathered to pay their respects to a Sutton police officer this morning.

Over 250 Metropolitan Police officers and staff gathered at the funeral of Detective Constable Scott Allardyce, who died on January 27 aged 34.

His death came after an 18-month fight against pancreatic cancer.

He left behind his wife Nikki who is a trainee Detective Constable at Sutton Police Station, his fourteen-year-old daughter Jade, and his four-year-old son Jake.

People lined both sides of the street as the cortege made its way to St Wilfrid’s Church, Haywards Heath this morning.

At the church entrance, a Guard of Honour led by Met Commander David Zinzan, Sutton borough commander Guy Ferguson and Wandsworth borough commander David Chinchen saluted D Con Allardyce as the hearse came to a halt.

A six-member bearer party carried the coffin into the church.

Led by a piper, the coffin was laid to rest inside the church followed by his family and the Guard of Honour.

During the service, readings were given by Sutton borough commander Guy Ferguson, Detective Sergeant Louis Silva and Detective Superintendent Gerry Campbell, of Wandsworth Police station.

The Met’s Special Escort Group led the cortege to Surrey and Sussex Crematorium for a private service.

The ceremony at the crematorium was followed by a tribute to his life at the Metropolitan Police Sports and Social Club in Bromley, Kent.

Borough commander Guy Ferguson said: "Scott was a well liked and respected officer and our thoughts and prayers are with his family at this very sad time."

D Con Scott Allardyce joined the MPS in March 2002 and served at Sutton and Belgravia police stations. His last posting was at Wandsworth Crime Squad.

Donations can be made to St Peter’s and St James Hospice in Sussex where Scott passed away, stpeter-stjames.org.uk .
