A group of kind-hearted golfers has scored an eagle with our Operation Butterfly, set up to help build a cancer centre in the borough.
The Coulsdon Golf Club Partisans have donated £1,000 to help create a Butterfly Room, an information and support centre for cancer patients and their carers, at St Helier hospital.
A spokesman for the group, Bob Ledger, who suffers from prostate cancer, said: “The reason why we chose the Butterfly Centre is because a few of the lads, including me, suffer from cancer, and we decided this would be a good cause to help.
“Every year we hold a charity golf day and members and their guests help us raise money for a charity of our choice and this year we chose the Butterfly Room.”
Mr Ledger and all the golf club members who helped with donations agree the Butterfly Room at St Helier would be a great feature for cancer patients.
He said: “At this particular moment, I am coping very well, but I do feel for people who need comfort an reassurance it’s a major factor to be able to get over your issues by having someone to talk to. It goes a long way to have someone to listen to you.”
The Coulsdon Golf Club Partisans have donated before to other charities, such as the Tadworth Children’s Trust, and is also set to help the Royal Marsden hospital this year.
