A soldier from Sutton is keeping a sharp eye on the Taliban in Afghanistan.
Fusilier Chris Wenham, 20, is a member of 2nd Battalion, The Royal Regiment of Fusiliers, which recruits from London.
The former Glenthorne High School pupil is 10 weeks into a six-month tour of Afgha-nistan. He is based at Forward Operating Base Nolay, near the town of Sangin, in the north of Helmand Province, where the regiment conducts regular patrols to provide security to the area.
One of Fus Wenham’s duties is to act as a sharpshooter for his platoon, able to fire at the enemy at ranges of up to 1,400m. It is a dangerous and difficult job, but one which Fusilier Wenham enjoys.
He said: “I like being a sharpshooter as it allows me to see further than anyone else on the battlefield.”
Fus Wenham’s tour is expected to finish this October.
