Falls rise as the snow falls in Sutton, ambulance service reveals

The London Ambulance Service (LAS) has reported a massive 135 per cent increase in falls in Sutton as a result of the recent adverse weather.

On an average day in the borough, paramedics would have to deal with 17 falls but this rose to 40 last week.

Across the capital, the increase was 120 per cent with 731 reports of falls compared to the usual 333 emergency calls on an average day.

Jason Killen, of the LAS, said: “Ice is still an issue in many parts of London and I’d urge people to take extra care when they’re out and about, and to dress appropriately.

“The roads might look clear but the pavements are still quite icy and hazardous. Over the past few days we’ve seen an increase in calls where people have slipped or fallen over so please be careful.

Falls include people falling down stairs, tripping over at home, falling off ladders and so on as well as people falling over on icy pavements.
