There are mass cancellations and severe delays affecting trains between all London terminals and Brighton due to a power failure between East Croydon and Gatwick Airport.

Trains may be cancelled or delayed by up to 60 minutes and the disruption is expected until 4pm.

In a statement Network Rail said: “Power to the railway is gradually being restored in some areas but not all, whilst this is on-going your service may be subject to major delays, cancellations and alterations until the fault is fully rectified.

“This is affecting Gatwick Express, Southern and Thameslink services.

“Gatwick Express services have been suspended until 10am.

“You are strongly advised to refrain from travelling in the peak, and delay your journey if possible as many services are trapped across the network.”

Anyone can sit in first class this morning due to the delays.

Southern advised people not to travel unless absolutely necessary.

Some commuters found fault with this particular advice.
