A road in Kingston town centre was taped off last night after a man suffered a cardiac arrest.
It was initially feared that a man in his 40s had been stabbed, but he found unresponsive by Metropolitan police officers in Castle Street near Kingston station, and was revived at the scene by paramedics at about 5.45pm.
A London Ambulance Service spokeswoman said they had been called to reports that the man had been stabbed but found the man was suffering from a cardiac arrest.
A Met spokesman said the man was taken to hospital in a stable condition.
Tyler Young said the road had been taped off by police at both ends, with about six paramedic response cars and police cars.
He said: "I think I may have even seen a white and blue tent within the cordon.
"I'm surprised Eden Street wasn't closed to be honest but it was like something out of a movie.
"I have approached Kingston Police and London Ambulance Service for a comment but nothing as yet."
A Met spokesman said that enquiries were ongoing.
