Police officers were left baffled after a brazen thief cut the chain from a police bicycle in Tolworth and rode off – while wearing pink roller blades.
Andrezj Nowiak, 29, spotted an opportunity when a Kingston police officer popped into a business near Tolworth Broadway having locked his bike outside.
The roller blade wearing thief cut the chain to bike and rode off into the distance, despite his fancy footwear.
The missing bike was never found.
A police spokesman said: “Recently PCSO David Crookshank had an appointment with a business in Tolworth. He went on a police bicycle and locked it up safely on a bike rack outside.
“However, shortly after he went inside for his meeting a man on pink roller blades approached the bike and used cutters to remove the lock.
“He then rode off on our bicycle still wearing his roller blades. We are not quite sure how this is possible but it happened.”
Officers soon tracked Nowiak to his home in Mitcham and charged him with theft of a pedal cycle.
He was found guilty and sentenced to 100 hours of unpaid work.
